Falling onto the Grass

This is where
I rest in
The soft green grass of
Momentary truth
Between sun and
Shade—
The light and
Shadow expose
The contrast of
Who I am and
Who I pretend
To be as
Gnats zig and
Zag and
Whirl above
My head in
The space
Reserved for
Time and
Air and
Play—
They zip about
Enticed by
The breeze breaking
Humidity’s grip on
Summer’s enduring
Entrance.

I don’t mind
These still moments of
Reflection—
My mask
Lay hidden in
The tall reeds of
Untouched
Green growth
Begging to
Root away
Who I am not
In favor of
Who I am in
Love

Falling into
The dark green of
Earth
I almost forgot
My mask existed
Until I saw
Your face and
Realized—
No time had
Passed from
Winter to
Spring to
Summer

Around you
The sun seems to
Hover over
The horizon holding
Dusk high
Above her head

Enchanted
The sun and
Earth
Meet
Mixing
Life and
Color into
One radiant
Smile—
Yours,
Highlighted with laughter.

And as
My mind wanders
She, the sun, keeps
The day moving
On—
Never settling into
Darkness
I breathe in
The realization that
My heart is
Moved into
Poetry—
My heart was
Never broken by
The changing days but
Has always been
Helpless in an
Expressions of
Love.

Gazing into
This day in
My eyes
There are
No secrets
No lies
No deception as
I trace
Shadows along
The ground—
They stretch to
Feel and
Cool the earth
Around me

The earth
Feels as
I feel
The earth
Cools as
I cool
My passion
My desire to
Feel
Your lips with
Mine once
Again—

This vision
Lives in
Me as
I follow
The shadows
Wondering…
How far into tomorrow does this longing go?

It doesn’t.

It is how
I feel in
Your presence in
Memory of
Heart’s emotions
Caught in
This moment of
Today…
Silence
Stillness and
Your smile
Resonate in
Me as
Shadows
Spread and
Shift within
The blades of
Grass as
My feelings for
You shift and
Move within
My heart—
All moving together.

Today
I felt
Freedom to
Be in
Love without
Control to
Be in
This feeling without
Making it
Mine.

I surrender to
The beauty and
The art of
Entangled
Emotions of
Swirling stomach of
Skipped beats of
Thundering
Anxiety over
Forgotten
Words and
Stuttered
Speech of
Sounding silly with
Awkwardly
Phrased
Sentences of
Loving and
Caring for
You out of
My comfort zone
And into
Uncertainty that
This love is
Here regardless of
How much I pretend
It’s not—
Today, I had to face it.

I am not
Yours and
You are not
Mine but
I love you
Regardless of
Yours and mine.

I love because it’s what my heart feels.
And this is okay.

Here
I lie in
The cool
Grass of
Summer’s
Beginnings and
Day’s end
Surrendering
What I feel—

I never meant to
Fall into
This position
Flat on
My back
Humbled by
My resilient
Heart but
I did and
In love
I am helpless to
Feel anything
Less than this…

My heart feels for you.

I accept it.

And as
The shadows
Shift and
The sun softens
Its stand
Night calls to
Me
Whispering
Let the truth be known…

“I see you in love because
We are all in love.
We are the love we feel.
I know you as love.
And I can’t know anyone better than this.”

To the night
Take my mask…

She will never know me
hiding my love behind it.

To the sun
Hold my love high…

So she may know me as love…
As the love I have and
The love I feel and as
The love and light
My heart gives.
